Update On iOS 5.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak For iPhone 4S/4/3GS, iPod Touch 4G/3G, Apple TV 2G

In the latest blog post, he has announced that he has handed over the details of the untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G and Apple TV 2G to Chronic Dev team, while he focusses on the untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 that are powered by Apple's A5 processor. He explains:

I read the comments on the blog, and I know that a lot of people are waiting for the A5 jailbreak.

Also, I know there are tons of people out there with A4 or even earlier devices who wants the untether now and don't care about it could be interesting to wait A5 is finished to release or even 5.1, so that we don't waste an exploit that took me months to find and develop.

I need to focus on A5 and hope I can find a path quick, and I have the feeling that chronic-dev could help me.

So, here is what I did: - I gave all the details to the chronic dev team so that they can finish, test, integrate and release the A4 jb ASAP. - I'll put all my energy from now on on the A5

Though it might end up disappointing some people who were eagerly waiting to release the untethered jailbreak in the next few days, it should be good news for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 users who currently can't jailbreak their iOS devices.

It remains to be seen how soon Chronic Dev team will release greenpois0n, which will finally bring an untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G and Apple TV 2G.

As always, we'll let you know as soon as we have any further updates, so stay tuned here at iPhone Hacks or join our Facebook Fan page or follow us on Twitter or subscribe to our RSS feed.

Vocal For iPhone 4S Lets You Control Your Mac Using Siri – Download Now

I take my white iPhone 4 everywhere I go. Usually when it’s within sight of someone I am always asked if it’s the new model: “Is that the 4G or the new 4GS?”, “No,” I reply, “It’s the 4; and the new one is called a 4S.” Smile.

Vocal logo

The reason many ask about the new model is to check out one key feature: Siri. The virtual assistant has helped fuel record-breaking sales worldwide. Even the jailbreak community has spent time tinkering with a way of releasing Siri from the chains of the iPhone 4S exclusivity, with some luck.

SiriProxy has been developed recently allowing anyone with a basic understanding of programming and networks, to set up their own custom-made Siri commands. Creative programmers have developed a way to start cars, change their thermostat, turn home appliances on and off and even browse TV, all using Siri.

The popular feature has inspired a new application for the Mac, allowing you to use the iPhone 4S dictation tool to control your Mac computer. The application is called Vocal, it was developed by Matt Roberts. Vocal would need to be installed both on your iPhone 4S and your Mac for it to work properly.

Vocal app screenshots

The iPhone application is $1.99 while its Mac counterpart is free of charge. Once installed, you can play your iTunes library, search the web, open applications and copy and paste texts all using dictation:

Dictation is a strong point of Vocal – using the same system as Siri for voice-to-text, the iPhone app will instantly work out when you have used dictation and send the text automatically, inserting it into any selected text fields and putting it on your clipboard.

If you are a power user, you can configure your own commands though the “custom bookmarks” view in the application. These commands can open a specific URL or open an application. The developer behind Vocal also welcomes suggestions for more advanced commands and asks that you email him with your ideas.

We already know Siri can run capably well on an iPhone 4. But until Apple brings the Siri technology onto the rest of their product lineup, using Vocal is a good alternative.

UnlockFX: Upcoming Jailbreak Tweak Will Bring Cool Unlock Animations to Your iPhone

Jeff Benjamin of iDownloadBlog has got a sneak peak of an upcoming jailbreak tweak called UnlockFX, which brings a number of cool unlock animations to your iPhone.

UnlockFx is developed by Filippo Bigarella, who has developed popular jailbreak apps such as Springtomize 2 that allows jailbroken iPhone users to customize almost each and every aspect of iOS.
As you can see from the video below, UnlockFX is quite easy to setup and it allows users to setup simple animations such as Translate up, rotate clockwise/anti-clockwise etc and complex animations such as slide away, wiggling etc.
It also allows you to set the duration of the animation. You can also select an image to show up when you slide to unlock instead of using the animations.
Filippo hasn't provided an ETA on when it will be released but according to Jeff it will be released after the untethered jailbreak is released, which based on pod2G's last update is few days away.

Gene Munster: Major iPhone Redesign Finally Coming in 2012

For the first nine months of 2011, the tech rumor mill churned out one report after the next about the forthcoming "resigned" iPhone 5. Although, in retrospect, it appears that the rumor mill got that one wrong, prominent Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster says the prediction may have been early, but it definitely wasn't wrong.

Last October, the world was introduced to the iPhone 4S - not the iPhone 5. The next generation iPhone (which will probably be named "iPhone 5") will see the long-awaited redesign, which could be drastic based on Munster's estimates. The tech watcher says Apple's total lack of any major hardware redesign in 2011 bodes well for something new and potentially groundbreaking in 2012.

Coinciding with his prediction about the iPhone 5 redesign, Munster believes sales for the iPhone 5 will be astonishing. "We expect buzz around a redesigned iPhone 5 to escalate in early CY12 until Apple launches it midway through the year," Munster told investors Wednesday. "The iPhone 5, along with deeper penetration of cheaper iPhone models in more price sensitive markets, should drive higher-than-expected iPhone growth into CY13. Our bull case scenario reflects CY13 iPhone revenue growth of 35% vs. base case growth of 18%."

Looking ahead to 2012, Munster has a fairly simple set of predictions for the devices that will dominate the Apple product family over the next twelve months: the iPhone 5, iPad 3 and - you guessed it - the presently mythical but widely anticipated connected HD Apple television.

Download The Official iOS 5 Firmware For iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad

iOS 5 Firmware Features
These features range from iMessage, Apple’s new cross device messaging solution (similar to BlackBerry Messenger), to a brand new notification system which will significantly improve the way you use your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. Apple has also integrated twitter directly into iOS 5 which will allow you to easily share your thoughts with the world.
Probably one of the most sought out features in iOS 5 is the ability to Wirelessly sync your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. Then of course there is built in iCloud support which will allow you to sync content across all of your Mac devices. As you can see, I could go on all day about the new and exciting features of iOS 5, but at the end of the day you need to try it for yourself.
iOS 5 Jailbreak Status
Currently we are waiting for word from the Dev-Team on whether or not iOS 5 can be Jailbroken. Once we have confirmation from the Dev-Team you will write another article explaining the steps necessary to Jailbreak the iOS 5 firmware. It is important to keep in mind, however, that you may be able to Jailbreak iOS 5 by pointing RedSn0w to iOS 5 GM (proceed at your own risk).
Download iOS 5 Firmware
If you would like to download the official iOS 5 firmware for your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad you will need to go to the iJailbreak Downloads Section. There you will find direct download links which will allow you to download iOS 5 for the iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 GSM, iPhone 4 CDMA, iPod Touch 5G, iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G, iPad 1G and iPad 2G.
Should I Update To iOS 5?
We recommend that if you do not rely on an unlock and are not worried about losing your Jailbreak for the next day or so that you upgrade to the iOS 5 firmware.
Note: If you are updating to iOS 5 please save your SHSH blobs prior to upgrading. This will ensure you can downgrade from iOS 5 to a previous firmware like 4.3.5, 4.3.4, 4.3.3 (untethered jailbreak).
Let us know what you think of iOS 5 in the comments section below…

Unlock iPhone 4 / 3GS on 5.0.1 with Ultrasn0w 1.2.5 [Tutorial]

How to jailbreak and unlock iPhone 4 / 3GS on 5.0.1 with Ultrasn0w 1.2.5 and Redsn0w 0.9.9 b9d ? Well, couple of days ago we reported you that iPhone Dev-team will release ultrasnOw 1.2.5 to unlock iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS on iOS 5.0.1 by Monday, but it looks we have early release for ultrasn0w 1.2.5.

As we told you earlier that ultraslOw 1.2.5 is only minor update to unlock the already unlockable basebands on iOS 5.0.1 for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS.

Ultrasn0w 1.2.5 support the below basebands :
  • 01.59.00
  • 04.26.08
  • 05.11.07
  • 05.12.01
  • 05.13.04
  • 06.15.00
How to know your iPhone's baseband version ? Go to Settings > General > About > Modem Firmware

Required Downloads:

To unlock iPhone 4, 3GS with ultrasnOw 1.2.5 on iOS 5.0.1 you have to know that :

You MUST jailbreak your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS with Redsn0w or sn0wbreeze using custom ipsw firmware to preserve your old basebands to be able to unlock your iPhone with ultrasn0w 1.2.5. If you are using Gevey SIM you can follow this guide.

How to Unlock iPhone 4, 3G 5.0.1 with Ultrasn0w 1.2.5 [Tutorial]

Step 1: Connect your iDevice with your PC via USB and open Redns0w you just downloaded above.

Step 2: Start Redsn0w, press on "Extras" > "Custom IPSW" and then point Redns0w to iOS 5.0.1 ipsw firmware that you downloaded above.
Now Redsn0w will start cooking your custom iOS 5 ipsw firmware
Step 3: Click on "Pwned DFU"

Step 4: Now make sure your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN to the computer before you click “Next”.
At this stage you will be presented with a screen where you will be guided on how to enter DFU mode. Quickly hold “Power” button and then while holding the “Power” button, you will now have to hold “Home” button too. Now after few seconds release “Power” button but keep holding “Home” button until installation begins.

Step 5: Open iTunes then Restore your iPhone 4, 3GS to the Custom iOS 5.0.1 ipsw (the file name begins with NO_BB).

Step 6: Now Open Cydia > Manage > Sources > Edit > Add then write the following repo :
http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com

Step 7: After installing this repo, tab on search and search for ultrasnOw then install it.

Congratulation, now you have unlocked iPhone 4, 3GS on 5.0.1 using ultrasn0w 1.2.5.

Ultrasn0w 1.2.5 To Unlock iPhone 4 And iPhone 3GS Running iOS 5.0.1 With Older Basebands Released

As promised, iPhone Dev team have released an updated version of Ultrasn0w for iOS 5.0.1.

Ultrasn0w 1.2.5 can now be installed on a jailbroken iPhone running iOS 5.01. Dev team hasn't added support to any new baseband so it will be compatible with basebands 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01, 05.13.04, and 06.15.00 for iPhone 3GS and baseband 01.59.00 for iPhone 4. You can find your iPhone’s baseband by going to Settings –> About –> Modem Firmware.

Please note that the only way to upgrade to iOS 5.0.1 while preserving the baseband that is compatible with Ultrasn0w is to use a custom IPSW created using Redsn0w, which now comes with PwnageTool functionality or Sn0wbreeze.

MuscleNerd has advised users with iPhone 3GS with old bootrom to apply latest Redsn0w 0.9.9b9d (download link - Mac and Windows) before installing Ultrasn0w compatible update:

iPhone3GS owners in our comments section below noticed a problem with the untethered jailbreak available for the old-bootrom 3GS. We’ve corrected that problem in 0.9.9b9d. If you have an old-bootrom 3GS and have already used last night’s redsn0w on it, you can re-run it again without losing anything. Just use this new version, go to Extras->IPSW and manually select the 5.0.1 IPSW, then go back and Jailbreak it again (but you can uncheck Cydia because it’s already installed).

As always let us know how it goes.

Disable TimeLine Facebook

Editors' note (December 19, 2011): This method for removing Timeline only applied to those who enabled it before its public release. Now that it's being rolled out to everyone, there is no way to remove Timeline and revert back to the old profile.
When Facebook Timeline was announced, it didn't take long for the Internet to figure out that even though the new profile design isn't yet available to the public, anyone could get it immediately with this little hack.
Today, over 1.5 million users have activated Timeline with this workaround, making the new profile visible to each of them and anyone else who has enabled it.
Eventually, Facebook will mandate Timeline for everyone, and when that happens, expect a lot of backlash. Many people, even those who opted in to the new design, seriously dislike it. They're calling it narcissistic, cluttered, and creepy.
If you concur, and you were one of those people who enabled Timeline, there's still a way to enjoy the old profile design (while it lasts.)
Step 1: Head to the Facebook Developers page where you originally created an app to enable Timeline. Click "Edit app."

(Credit: Screenshot by Sharon Vaknin/CNET)

Step 2: The only way to remove Timeline is to delete the app. If you are an actual developer, you're out of luck. Otherwise, click "Delete app" in the left sidebar.

Once you confirm the app deletion, your Facebook Timeline will be disabled.

Untethered Jailbreak For iPhone 4 Running iOS 5.0.1 Demoed

greenpois0n
iOS hacker - pod2G has just published a new blog post in which he has demoed his untethered jailbreak working on iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1.
He has also mentioned that the untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G, iPod touch 3G and Apple TV 2 is ready for prime time and working hard to release it in "some more days".

He writes on his blog:
Here is a new video demo of the current status of the 5.0.1 jailbreak running on an iPhone 4.
This is meant to reassure people that were thinking it only works on older iPods.
The jailbreak is near ready for prime time (excluding 4S and iPad 2).
Patches are the same as redsn0w's. Expect the same level of stability.
Some more days to wait. Be patient, we're doing our best.
Couple of days back, pod2G had mentioned that he was making progress on the untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S. However, based on his post, it looks like he plans to first release the untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G, iPod touch 3G and Apple TV 2 first.
With iOS 5.0.2 and iOS 5.1 release imminent, it remains to be seen if pod2G will release the untethered jailbreak soon or wait for Apple to release the iOS software updates. There is always a risk of waiting for Apple to release an iOS software update as it can always fix the exploit that pod2G is using in the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1.
